Metal theft has fallen by over 80% since 2012.

West Midlands Police are dealing with 60 instances a month compared with over 350 four years ago.

Policing initiatives, changes in legislation requiring cashless payments/ID recording and pricing falls have all attributed to the current figures.

Mason's were visited by the BBC Midlands Today team over the weekend along with West Midland Police to provide an update on Forces success.

"Here at Mason Metals we use our own bespoke computer system to hold sensitive ID documentation securely and process cashless payments via Bacs transfer.  The "Metaltrack" system is used nationally by fellow scrap metal merchants and was designed (and is now suppoted by) Kidderminster based IT firm Iceblue" said Mason's Commercial Manager Neil Woodall. 

The Scottish government are implementing similar legislation and a cash ban in September this year; the businesses hope the system can be sold to Scottish merchants as they look to adapt to the changes in law.
